Universal City Real Estate

About Universal City

Ranked by Money Magazine in 2007 as one of the best places to live, Universal City lies in both Guadalupe and Bexar Counties, just to the northeast of San Antonio and adjacent to Randolph Air Force Base.  It was named by the developer, A. Milner, to mark what he felt was the universal importance of the air base.   Early growth in Universal City was slow.  Randolph Field opened on October 25, 1931, and the first business just outside the gate was a service station which opened in 1932, which was soon followed by a cleaners, and then a garage in 1935.  It wasn’t until 1963 that the city had a bank and finally in 1971, a post office.  The pace of growth picked up in the 60s and 70s, and by the 2000 Census, Universal City had a population of 14,849 people.

Education

Of these 14,849 residents representing 5,995 households, nearly one-third of them were children under 18 years of age. Today there are nearly 18,000 people living in Universal City. Students attend schools in either the Judson Independent School District of Converse, Texas or the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District. The first school established in the area was Coronado Elementary School in 1971, Olympia Elementary in 1980, and Kitty Hawk Junior High in 1976. These three schools are part of the Judson Independent School District .The Rose Garden Elementary School opened in 1961, and North View (a special and alternative education school) began in 1956. These two schools are in the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District.

Climate

Winters are mild with January low of about 40, and summers are long, with a July high of about 95 degrees.  Annually Universal City gets about 30 inches of rain spread over about 66 days, but it has 221 sunny days for plenty of outdoor activities.

Things to Do

Universal City is less than 30 minutes from San Antonio, but it is one of those unique suburban communities that feels like a small town far from the hustle and bustle of big city life. Yet it is still close enough to enjoy the big-city amenities.

Universal City has four parks and hosts two annual civic events: the Veterans' Day parade, sponsored by the local veterans, and the annual Children's Christmas Party, sponsored by the Universal City volunteer fire department.  Universal City has a municipal golf course that looks like anything but.  Rather, the Olympia Hills Golf and Conference Center more resembles a resort .  Universal City also has a private course, Randolph Oaks Golf Course which is a championship course.

Universal City Real Estate

Universal City real estate sits among rolling hills and deep canyons.  Its residential streets are lined by shady oaks and mesquite trees, a truly picturesque setting.  Universal City real estate is primarily single-family homes, but there are also some multi-family units.  Custom estates and luxury homes are usually situated near the golf courses or waterfronts.  You can’t go wrong choosing a new home in a community with local amenities unique to the area.
